FAQ

  • Is Midwifery Care Safe?

In short, yes. The longer answer is that midwifery care for low-risk women is safe. Studies are showing more and more that home birth for low-risk women can actually be safer than hospital birth.

  • Do You Accept Payment Plans?

Absolutely! During your initial visit, we will talk about a payment plan that works for your individual needs. Standard plan includes a $500 deposit at onset of care, $250 at each apppointment, and the balance due by your 36-week home visit. I can not attend your birth if your balance is not paid in full by 36 weeks.

  • Do You Accept Insurance?

No. CPMs are not licensed in Georgia and therefore we can not accept insurance. I do have a biller who can work with you to try and get your insurance to pay something; however, your care with me is cash pay upfront.

There are Christian Health Shares who will reimburse you for your maternity care. Samaritan Ministries and Christian Healthcare Ministries seem to work well.

  • Are There Any Hidden Costs?

My global fee includes everything except ultrasounds, outside-of-normal labs, and RhoGAM for Rh- mothers. Your routine labs (initial, 28-week, & GBS), birth kit, and waterbirth pool (if you choose it) are all included as part of your standard midwifery practice. Doulas, childbirth education, and placenta encapsulation are not included.

  • I'm In My 3rd Trimester. Can I Transfer To You?

The short answer: possibly. I am willing to talk to anyone who wants to come into care but do have certain criteria that need to be met. Contact me for more information.

  • Can I Have A Waterbirth?

Yes, please! The majority of my clients use a pool at some point in their labor. I offer waterbirth pools for my clients to use! Hydrotherapy is an excellent way for moms to cope with labor!

  • What Happens If We Need To Transfer To The Hospital?

This is a real possibility in every birth and we need to be prepared for it, whether it is for pain management or emergency support. In the event of a transfer during labor, I will always go with you to the hospital. Your transfer of care must be done efficiently and respectfully. Depending on the circumstances, this would take place either by private car or ambulance. If it is at all possible, I can stay with you to support you through your labor, birth, and immediate postpartum. If you have a doula on your team, she is welcome to continue her doula role with you. Once you are discharged from the hospital, I will continue with routine postpartum care as planned.

  • Do I Need A Doula AND A Midwife?

Maybe, maybe not. I strongly encourage all first-time mothers to hire a doula. While it’s not required, it is very, very helpful to you. Your labor may consist of quite a bit of time before I get to you and a doula can be very helpful in that time not only in helping you cope with labor but also knowing when to call me!

  • Can My Other Kids Come To Appointments With Me?

This is something that I am actually very passionate about. YES! Please PLEASE bring your children with you to prenatals! It is very important to me that your children are a part of your care. This allows them to get used to me being close to you and touching your belly. It also gives them a chance to bond with your baby. I love having older siblings “help” me with finding the baby’s heartbeat and measuring your belly! I also have toys that are available just for the kids to play with in the office!
